Maisto and O’Farrell’s criticisms of Watson et al.’s study are refuted by ( 1 ) the citation of several studies that support Watson et al.’s conclusions on the validity of alcoholics’ drinking self-reports, ( 2 ) a point-by-point response to Maisto and O’Farrell’s specific criticisms and ( 3 ) the presentation of additional information on the procedures and data used in Watson et al.’s study.
