SUMMARY. Of 147 patients studied, clinicians identified 28 as problem drinkers; the patients’ responses to interview items indicated that only 16 were problem drinkers. Of 119 patients identified by clinicians as normal drinkers or abstainers, 9 indicated by interview responses that they were problem drinkers.
