Alcoholics and Opiate Addicts; Comparison of Personality Characteristics

SUMMARY. Compared with opiate addicts, alcoholics scored higher on the Hs (hypochondriasis), D (depression), Hy (hysteria), A (anxiety) and MacAndrew Scales of the MMPI and lower on the K (defensiveness), Ma (activity) and Es (ego strength) scales, but age was the most powerful discriminator between the two groups.
