Alcohol Consumption and the Duration of Systolic Time Intervals in Middle-Aged Men

SUMMARY. In a general population of middle-aged men, there was a decrease in cardiac preejection period and in the ratio of preejection period to left ventricular ejection time with an increase in lifetime alcohol consumption. An increase in myocardial contractility with increased alcohol consumption is suggested.
