Alcohol Consumption and Death by Drowning in Adults; a 24-Year Epidemiological Analysis

SUMMARY. During the period 1957 to 1980 autopsies were performed on 131 men and 21 women aged 15 years and older who died following accidental submersion. Autopsy blood alcohol concentrations greater than .08 % were not observed in any woman but were present in 35 % of all men victims and in 56 % of those aged 30 to 64 years. Forty-six percent of the latter group had blood alcohol concentrations greater than .15%.
